Azerbaijani Ombudsman issues statement in connection with Armenian provocation

Azerbaijani Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva issued a statement in connection with the large-scale provocation of the Armenian armed forces in the Dashkesan, Kalbajar and Lachin directions, Trend reports.

"Armenian armed forces units, having committed large-scale provocations during the night of September 12 in the Dashkasan, Kalbajar and Lachin directions of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, once again grossly violated the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, fundamental human rights, provisions of the trilateral statement signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia on November 10, 2020. Armenia's military provocation led to losses among military personnel, damage to military and civilian infrastructure, violation of the rights to life, safety, and health of civilians and military personnel," she said.

"Azerbaijan strongly condemns another large-scale provocations by subversive group of Armenian troops, in particular, the mining of Azerbaijani territories in various directions, especially the territories where large-scale restoration and construction work on access roads are being carried out," Aliyeva stated.

"A total of 3,190 Azerbaijani citizens, including 355 children and 38 women, were harmed as a result of mine explosion in the period from 1991 through 2022. 242 people were harmed in mine explosion from November 2020 through September 2022, 40 of them died, 202 were seriously injured," she added.

The discovery of mines, produced by Armenia in 2021, during mine clearance operations carried out on the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, confirms Armenia’s disinterest in opening communication and transport routes, as well as in establishing peace in general. With these provocations, Armenia is trying to slow down the large-scale reconstruction and construction work on the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, and thereby delay the process of returning former internally displaced persons to their native lands.

The statement appeals to the international organizations and the international community to respond immediately and harshly to Armenia's provocative actions, which create serious obstacles to the establishment of sustainable peace in the region.
