Russia suggests extending zero duty on EAEU container import until end of 2023

Russia suggests that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) extends until the end of 2023 the zero import customs duty rate for individual kinds of containers, press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) said on Monday.

"The Eurasian Economic Commission received a proposal initiated by Russia to establish the import customs duty rate of the united customs tariff of the EAEU at 0% from the customs value in respect of individual kinds of containers," the EEC said. The deadline for the zero duty is proposed to be set from March 1 to December 31, 2023 inclusive, the press service informed. The relevant draft for discussion of the Russian initiative was posted on the EEC’s website.

According to the Russian position, the reduction of import customs duty rate will provide for a stimulating effect for the upgrade and saturation of container fleets of Russian logistical operators and ensure saturation of the domestic market with required goods, the EEC noted.

The EEC Board earlier renewed the zero rate of the import customs duty in respect of individual containers until February 28, 2023 inclusive. Such rate applies to containers (including tanks for carriage of fluids or gases) specifically designed and equipped to be carried by one or several kinds of transport, except containers with the anti-radiation lead coating to carry radioactive substance and containers with the inner volume from 42 cubic meters to 43 cubic meters.

The current rate of the import customs duty in the EAEU in respect of containers stands at 10% of the customs value.
